RE Grave, Railway Wood

Alongside the old railway that ran from Ypres to Zonnebeke, where the front lines crossed it in 1915, is this poignant memorial to the men of the Royal Engineers Tunnelling Companies who lost their lives underground in this area. The photograph is looking east from the British front line of 1915. Bellewaarde Farm lies just over the crest to the right. The Menin Road is 1 km to the right and Ypres behind the camera.
