Etreux
A village south east of Le Cateau, on the River Sambre.

Etreux British Cemetery lies on the road taken by Douglas Haig's I Corps during the retreat. On 27th August 1914, the 2nd Munster Fusiliers fought a sharp rear guard action, commemorated by the plaque and Celtic cross memorials shown here. Both are located within the military cemetery, where 122 casualties of the battalion are buried.
