Artillery Brigades of the New Army Divisions

What is a Field Artillery Brigade?

Brigade
Higher formation

Please note that the details of the composition of Brigades at a Battery level will be added in a future project. Battery movements and (re)configurations were rather complex. It should be noted that the Howitzer Brigades (designated (H)) lost this distinction, generally in early 1916, when all Brigades were reorganised to include both types. The ex-Howitzer batteries gained three field gun batteries, and lost the (H). At this time too, Batteries were reorganised from 4 to 6 guns. Many batteries were broken up in August 1916, and many left Divisional command to join Corps or Army artillery groups in early 1917. Brigade Ammunition Columns were reorganised into the Divisional Ammunition Columns in mid-1916.
