What is a Field Artillery Brigade?

Please note that there was much shuffling of Batteries between Brigades in the first weeks of the war, especially affecting 27, 28 and 29 Divisions. Not all of these moves have been included in the table, for clarity.

Originally 13, 67 and 69 Batts, reformed on joining Division to include 98, 132 and 133 Batts. 67 went to XX. 11 Batt joined Nov 1914, and 133 left to join CXXIX in July 1916. 98 Batt was broken up Dec 1916. B/CXXIX joined July 1916, redesignated D/I.
II 2nd Division from formation in August 1914 to November 1918. Originally 21, 42 and 53 Batts.
III 28th Division from formation in December 1914 to November 1918. Originally 18, 62 and 65 Batts, in India. 22 Batt joined from XXXIV of 2nd Division Feb 1915. A section of 22 moved to CXXLVI in the same month. 365 Batt broken up Aug 1917. D Batt (H) joined from CXLVI Aug 1917, redesignated D/CXLVI.
IV Meerut Division of the Indian Army. Originally 7, 14 and 66 Batts.
V Lahore Division of the Indian Army. Moved to 3rd Canadian Division in February 1916, then 4th Canadian Division in October 1916, Second Army (as an Army Brigade) in October 1917, Third Army in December 1917, First Army in February 1918, Fifth Army in July 1918 and finally returned to Fourth Army in October 1918. Originally 64, 73 and 81 Batts.
VI (H)   Originally 74, 77 and 79 Batts, in India. 91 Battery joined from XVI Bde in December 1916.
VII   Consisted of 4, 38 and 77(H) Batteries. Joined 1st (Peshawar) Division November 1918 in place of XVI Bde RFA.
VIII (H) 5th Division to May 1916, when broken up. Reformed in Norwich on 12 January 1917, and moved to Basra in Mesopotamia August 1917 before moving in April 1918 to Palestine. Joined 3rd (Lahore) Division of the Indian Army in Palestine in May 1918. Howitzer Brigade. Originally 37,61 and 65, all (H) Batts. 61 left May 1915, to 27th Division. Reformed from 372, 373, 374 and 375 Batts.

Originally 19, 20 and 28 Batts.
X   Originally 76, 81 and 82 Batts, in India.
XI Lahore Division of the Indian Army. Moved to 3rd Canadian Division in February 1916, then 4th Canadian Division in October 1916, Fourth Army (as an Army Brigade) in August 1917, Fifth Army in November 1917, Fourth Army in December 1917, and finally Second Army in February 1918. Originally 83, 84 and 85 Batts, in India.
XII (H) 6th Division to May 1916, when broken up. Howitzer Brigade. Originally 43,86 and 87, all (H) Batts. 86 left May 1915, to CXXVII of 4th Division.
XIII Meerut Division of the Indian Army. Originally 2, 8 and 44 Batts.
XIV 4th Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade. Originally 39,68 and 88 Batts. 39 moved to XIX in February 1915. 86 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XV 5th Division to November 1918. Originally 11,52 and 80 Batts. 11 moved Feb 1915 to I Brigade. A section from each of 37(H) and 65(H) Batts joined May 16 and redesignated D Batt. 526(H) joined Oct 1916, redesignated C/XV, but broken up Jan 1917.
XVI   Originally 89, 90 and 91 Batts, in 1st (Peshawar) Division in India. The latter moved to VI (H) Bde in December 1916, being replaced by 74 (Howitzer) Battery. Left Division November 1918, going to Rawalpindi.
XVII 29th Division from formation in January 1915 to November 1918. Originally 13,26 and 92 Batts. 370 Batt joined Mar 1916, but exchanged for 460(H) with CXXXII May 1916. 460(H) itself moved to XV RHA Sept 1916, and D/CXXXII joined in its place. Jan 1917, D/CXLVII joined.
XVIII Lahore Division of the Indian Army. Originally 59, 93 and 94 Batts.
XIX 27th Division from formation in November 1914 to November 1918. Originally 95,96 and 131 Batts. 39 Batt joined from XIV of 4th Division Feb 1915, and 95 left to join CXXIX in July 1916. No Howitzer sections joined.
XX 27th Division from formation in November 1914 to November 1918. Originally 98, 99 and 100 Batts, reformed on joining Division to include 67, 99 and 364 Batts. Nine 18-lbr guns arrived Nov 1914, to make the Batts up to 4 guns each. 148 Batt joined from XV of 5th Division Feb 1915, and 324 left to join CXXIX in July 1916. 148 broken up Dec 1916, and C/CXXIX joined July 1916, redesignated D/XX.
XXI   Originally 101, 102 and 103 Batts, in India.
XXII 7th Division from September 1914 to November 1918. Originally 104,105 and 106 Batts. 35(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXIII 3rd Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade. By November 1918 with Second Army. Originally 107,108 and 109 Batts. Latter left May 1916. A section from each of 86(H) and 128 (H) Batts joined May 16 and redesignated D Batt.
XXIV 6th Division to November 1918 Originally 110,111 and 112 Batts. 43(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.

XXVI 1st Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade. Originally 116,117 and 118 Batts. Latter left May 1915. 40 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXVII 5th Division to November 1918. Originally 119,120 and 121 Batts. 37(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXVIII 5th Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade. By November 1918 with Second Army. Originally 122,123 and 124 Batts. 65(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXIX 4th Division to November 1918. Originally 125,126 and 127 Batts. 86(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXX (H) 3rd Division to May 1916, when broken up. Howitzer Brigade. Originally 128,129 and 130, all (H) Batts. 128 left May 1915.
XXXI 28th Division from formation in December 1914 to November 1918. Originally 69,100 and 103 Batts. 118 Batt joined from XXXVI of 1st Division Feb 1915. A section of 118 moved to CXXLVI the same month. 103 Batt broken up Dec 1916. A Batt joined from CXXX (H) in July 1916, redesignated D/XXXI.
XXXII 4th Division to November 1918. Originally 27,134 and 135 Batts. A section from each of 86(H) and 128(H) Batts joined May 16 and redesignated D Batt.
XXXIII 8th Division from formation in October 1914 to November 1918. Originally 32,33 and 36 Batts. 55(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXXIV 2nd Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade. Originally 22,50 and 70 Batts. 22 left May 1915. 56 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXXV 7th Division from September 1914 to November 1918. Originally 12,25 and 58 Batts. 31(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XXXVI 2nd Division to November 1918 Originally 15,48 and 71 Batts. 22 left May 1915. A section from each of 47(H) and 56 (H) Batts joined May 16 and redesignated D Batt.
XXXVII (H) 4th Division to February 1915, when transferred to IV Corps Artillery. Joined 7th Division in June 1915. Broken up May 1916. Howitzer Brigade. Originally 31,35 and 55, all (H) Batts. 55 moved to 7th Division Nov 1914, and to 8th Division in May 1915.
XXXVIII 6th Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade. By November 1918 with Second Army. Originally 24,34 and 72 Batts. 34 moved to 47th Division Feb 1916. A section from each of 43(H) and 87(H) Batts joined May 16 and redesignated D Batt. 508(H) joined Dec 1916, redesignated C/XXXVIII, but broken up a month later. A section from B/XCVI of 21st Division joined D Batt in Dec 1916.
XXXIX 1st Division to November 1918 Originally 46,51 and 54 Batts. 30 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XL 3rd Division to November 1918 Originally 6,23 and 49 Batts. 130 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XLI 2nd Division to November 1918 Originally 9,16 and 17 Batts. 47 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
XLII 3rd Division to November 1918 Originally 29,41 and 45 Batts. 129 (H) Batt less a section joined May 16.

Lahore Division of the Indian Army, then 1st Division to May 1916, when broken up.

Howitzer Brigade. Originally 30,40 and 57, all (H) Batts. 57 left May 1915.
XLIV (H) 2nd Division to May 1916, when broken up. Reformed in England as a standard Brigade, and moved to Egypt May 1917, joining 74th Division 3 July 1917. Howitzer Brigade . Originally 47,56 and 60, all (H) Batts. 60 left May 1915.
XLV 8th Division from formation in October 1914 to November 1918. Originally 1,3 and 5 Batts. 57(H) Batt less a section joined May 16.
LIV 10th Division to 28th Division in August 1917 to November 1918. A,B and C Batteries.
LVI 52nd Division from April to November 1918. Previously with 13th (Western) Division

LXI (H) 11th (Northern) Division to August 1915 , then Guards Division to May 1916, when broken up. Howitzer Brigade
LXIV By November 1918, had become an Army Troops Brigade, with Second Army.  
LXXIV 16th (Irish) Division to August 1915, then Guards Division to November 1918  
LXXV 16th (Irish) Division to August 1915, then Guards Division to November 1918  
LXXVI 16th (Irish) Division to August 1915, then Guards Division to January 1917. Left Division and became an Army Brigade.  
LXXVII (H) 16th (Irish) Division to 30 July 1915, moved to Aldershot and Bordon, re-equipped. Rejoined Division in France on 22 February 1916. Left Division and became an Army Brigade 22 February 1917.  
CXXVII (H) Formed in 4th Division August 1915, and broken up May 1916. Howitzer Brigade. 86 Batt joined from 6th Division May 1915, and 128 from 3rd Division June 1916. On breaking up, 86 went to XIV and 128 to XXIX Brigades.
CXXVIII (H) 8th Division from formation in August 1915, and broken up May 1916. Howitzer Brigade. 55(H)Batt joined from XXXVII of 4th Division, and 57(H) from XLII of 1st Division.
CXXIX (H) 27th Division from formation in August 1915 to November 1918. Howitzer Brigade, formed of a Batt each from LIII, XCII and LXV Brigades, which became A,B and C Batts. Reorganised July 1916. B Batt went to I Brigade; C to XX Brigade; A redesignated D/CXXIX; 133 Batt joined from I, 95 from XIX and 364 from XX. 95 was broken up Dec 1916, after which 364 was renumbered 95. Confused? I am.
CXXXII (H) Joined 10th Division at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli in August 1915, until March 1916 when transferred to 29th Division . Originally LVII(H) Brigade, composed of A and D Batts. 460(H) joined Mar 1916. Redisgnated CXXXII(H) in Mar 1916, whereupon 460 became A Batt, A became B and D became C. Reorganised in May 1916: A moved to XVII, becoming D/XVII. B moved to CLXVI as D/CLXVI, exchanged for 371. Broken up in September 1916, the sections being used to build XV RHA and XVII into 6-gun batteries.
CXXLVI 28th Division from formation in December 1914 to August 1917, when moved to Egypt. Originally 75,366 and 367 Batts. A section of 22 Batt and 118 Batt joined Feb 1915, and became 149. 367 Batt broken up Dec 1916. B Batt joined from CXXX (H) in July 1916, redesignated D/CXLVI. The latter moved to III in Aug 1917, and 366 moved to CCLXVIII of 74th Division the following month.
CXXLVII 29th Division from formation in January 1915 to January 1917, when becoming an Army Brigade. Originally 10,97 and 368 Batts, joined in Feb 1915 by 460(H). The latter exchanged for 370 with XVII May 1916. 371 joined Mar 1916, exchanged with B/CXXXII, which was redesignated D Batt, in May 1916. D Batt, expanded to a 6-gun unit, transferred to XVII in January 1917. At the same time A/LXXXI joined as A Batt. In Jan 1918, C/CCCXXXII(H) joined, redesignated D Batt.
IV (Highland) Mountain TF 29th Division from March 1915 to July 1915, when transferred to 11th Division. In Aug 1915, it moved to 10th Division. Originally Argyll, Buteshire and Ross&Cromarty Batts, of 10-lbr , 2.75-inch guns.
