1st Battalion

August 1914 : in Fyzabad, India. Returned to England, landing at Plymouth on 16 November 1914. November 1914 : attached to 82nd Brigade, 27th Division. 2 November 1916 : transferred to 29th Brigade, 10th (Irish) Division.


2nd Battalion >Book >War Diary

August 1914 : in Cork. Part of 17th Brigade, 6th Division. 14 October 1915 : transferred with Brigade to 24th Division. 19 October 1915 : transferred to 73rd Brigade, 24th Division. 1 February 1918 : transferred to 47th Brigade, 16th (Irish) Division. 23 April 1918 : transferred to 88th Brigade, 29th Division.


3rd (Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Birr. Remained in Ireland until November 1917, then moved to England, where it later absorbed the 4th and 5th Bns.

4th (Extra Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Maryborough. Remained in Ireland until May 1915, then moved to England. Returned to Ireland in September 1915, and back again to England in November 1917. Absorbed by 3rd Bn in May 1918.

5th (Extra Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Drogheda. Remained in Ireland until May 1915, then moved to England. Returned to Ireland in September 1915, and moved to Scotland in November 1917. Absorbed by 3rd Bn in May 1918.
Territorial

The Irish regiments formed no TF battalions.

New Armies
6th (Service) Battalion

Formed in Dublin, August 1914, as part of K1. August 1914 : attached to 29th Brigade, 10th (Irish) Division. May 1918 : left the Division and moved to France, arriving Marseilles on 1 June 1918. 7-19 June 1918 : attached to 14th Division. 19-28 June 1918 : attached to 34th Division. 20 July 1918 : attached to 198th Brigade, 66th Division. 12 September 1918 : disbanded in France.


7th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Fermoy in October 1914, as part of K2. September 1914 : attached to 47th Brigade, 16th (Irish) Division. 14 February 1918 : disbanded in France.
