Remembering L/Cpl Arthur Joshua MARTINS of the 12th Btn AIF. According to records he was wounded on the 25th April, 1915 at the Gallipoli landing - a very important day for Australia and died the next day. I have in my possession an old travelling trunk bearing his name, which I inherited from my grandmother. Through various means I have been able to locate his military history, and have also made contact with relatives in the UK. He apparently emigrated to Australia in about 1911, and enlisted with the Australian Infantry. He was originally from Lakenham, Norwich.
I think of him often, when I pass the trunk on the landing in my house. May he rest in peace. May 09, 2008 - 12:10
In memory of my Great Uncle Joseph HIND, son of Joseph Taylor & Esther HIND (nee Jenkinson) originally from Ropsley, Lincolnshire. Uncle Joe emigrated to Australia in about 1907 and joined the AIF when War broke out. He was in the 28th Btn and was believed killed at Bullecourt in France on the 3rd May, 1917. He is remembered at the Memorial at Villers Bretonneux. No one from our family has ever been there to honour him, in fact many don't even know he existed, but hopefully, next year I will make the journey. May he rest peacefully.
