Published in 1919, the National Roll is a compilation of mini biographies of soldiers in 14 volumes. The entries were by paid subscription, with information being provided by the man or his family. Coverage is very patchy and in many cases the entries are very inaccurate. However it is nonetheless a useful resource. There are copies at the library of the National Archives in Kew and at many regional libraries. The series has been reprinted in recent years by Naval & Miltary Press.
