My wife came across this map extract in her mothers effects. We believe that it was from my wife's grandfather, Lt Reuben Leat, when serving in France during 1914-1918, perhaps informing his wife of his whereabouts. Is anyone able to identify anything from it? eg What front / battle line etc. This would be an added extra to the family tree. Thank you in advance.

Hi

It is obviously the Western Front , somewhere in France

I have looked at some of the maps here - http://www.1914-1918.net/mapscampaigns.html
but cant find a match, you could try going through all of them.
Alternatively try googling some of the places on the map and see where they fit in with the other maps

regards

Robert

It is east of Verdun.

This area was always on the front held by the French Army, as far as I know. Unless he was sent as an observer of some kind, it is not a front on which he would have seen any action.
