Regular Army
1st Battalion

August 1914 : in Ferozepore, India. Part of Ferozepore Brigade, 3rd (Lahore) Division of the Indian Army.
28 August 1914 : Moved to France, landing at Marseilles on 26 September 1914.
5 December 1914 : amalgamated with 2nd Bn.
11 December 1915 : moved to Mesopotamia, landing at Basra 10 January 1916.
Moved to Egypt via Kuwait, 3 April 1918.


2nd Battalion

August 1914 : in Aldershot. Part of 5th Brigade, 2nd Division.
26 November 1914 : transferred to Ferozepore Brigade, 3rd (Lahore) Division of the Indian Army. Amalgamated with 1st Bn 5 December 1914.


3rd (Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Galway. Remained in Ireland until November 1917, then moved to England, where it later absorbed the 4th Bn.

4th (Extra Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Boyle. Remained in Ireland until November 1917, then moved to Scotland. In May 1918, it was absorbed by the 3rd Bn.
Territorial Force

The Irish regiments raised no battalions for the Territorial Force.

New Armies
5th (Service) Battalion

Formed in Dublin, August 1914, as part of K1.
August 1914 : attached to 29th Brigade, 10th (Irish) Division.
30 April 1918 : left the Division and moved to France, arriving Marseilles on 1 June 1918.
7-28 June 1918 : attached to 14th Division.
22 July 1918 : attached to 197th Brigade, 66th Division.
25 August 1918 : transferred to 199th Brigade, 66th Division.


6th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Kilworth, September 1914, as part of K2.
September 1914 : attached to 47th Brigade, 16th (Irish) Division.
13 April 1918 : reduced to cadre strength.
17 June 1918 : cadre transferred to 34th Division.
27 June 1918 : transferred to 117th Brigade, 39th Division.
3 August 1918 : disbanded in France.
Other Battalions

None formed.
