1914 : in Penrith, attached to the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade.
RHQ
and Squadrons were split up for training purposes, but by May 1916
had
reformed as XI Corps Cavalry Regiment. HQ, D Squadron and MG Section
were attached to 20th (Light) Division between 24 June 1915and 29 April
1916, when they went to 2nd
Cavalry Division before joining XI Corps.
In
June 1917, the Regiment was dismounted and men sent for infantry training.
21 officers and 239 men joined the 7th (Westmoreland and Cumberland Yeomanry)
Bn, the Border Regiment.
2/1st
Formed
September 1914, and remained in UK until late in the war. Initially attached
to Western Mounted Brigade, which was redesignated 21st Mounted Brigade
in April 1916. In July 1916, Brigade was redesignated 14th Cyclist Brigade.
The latter moved to Ireland in May 1918.
3/1st
Formed
in 1915. Remained in United Kingdom until absorbed into 10th Reserve Cavalary
Regiment in Summer 1916. Personnel were transferred as infantry to 5th
(Reserve) Bn Durham Light Infantry in early 1918.
