The Long, Long Trail

When the regular cavalry regiments mobilised for war in August 1914, reserve regiments were formed. There were 17 in total, being 3 of the Household Cavalry, and 14 of the Line Cavalry. The purpose of the units was to train new recruits, and to provide replacements for losses among the regular regiments. None of the Reserve regiments moved to a theatre of war. In June 1915, the 3rd-Line Yeomanry units were affiliated to the Reserve regiments.
