August 1914 : in Oxford. Part of the 2nd South Midland Mounted Brigade, which in August 1914 was attached to the Mounted Division.

September 1914 : Brigade moved to 2nd Mounted Division.

22 September 1914: moved independently to France and became GHQ Troops.

31 October 1914: joined 2nd Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

11 November 1914: joined 4th Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division.

2/1st

Formed September 1914, and remained in UK until moving to Ireland in April 1918. In July 1916, converted into a Cyclist unit.

3/1st

Formed in 1915. Remained in United Kingdom until early 1917, when absorbed into 8th Reserve Cavalry Regiment.
