Sherwood Rangers

1/1st (Sherwood Rangers)

August 1914 : in Retford. Part of the Notts & Derbys Mounted Brigade.

August 1914 : Brigade joined 1st Mounted Division

August 1914 : moved with Brigade to 2nd Mounted Division, with which the regiment served on Gallipoli, before the Division was broken up in January 1916. Brigade redesignated 7th Mounted Brigade, moved to Salonika.

June 1917: returned to Egypt; ship carrying this Regiment landed at Mudros after being torpedoed. Brigade was attached to Desert Mounted Corps.

May 1918: Brigade moved to newly-formed 2nd Mounted Division, which in July 1918 was redeisgnated 5th Cavalry Division, and the Brigade became 14th Cavalry Brigade.

2/1st (Sherwood Rangers)

Formed September 1914. Initially attached to 2/1st Notts & Derbys Mounted Brigade, which in June 1915 was attached to 2/2nd Mounted Division. In March 1916, Brigade was redesignated 9th Mounted Brigade (Division became 3rd Mounted Division). In August 1917 converted into a cyclist unit in 11th Cyclist Brigade.

3/1st (Sherwood Rangers)

Formed in 1915. Remained in United Kingdom until absorbed in 3rd Reserve Cavalry Regiment in early 1917.
