1/1st August 1914 : in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Part of the Yorkshire Mounted Brigade. September 1914 : joined the newly-forming 7th Division. April 1915: Regiment split up: RHQ and A Squadron remained with the Division; B Squadron joined 1st Division; C Squadron joined 8th Division. May 1916: all units reformed in France, to form XIII Corps Cavalry. August 1917 : moved to VIII Corps. November 1917 : moved to III Corps. October 1918: moved to XII Corps. 2/1st Formed October 1914. April 1916: Regiment split up: RHQ and B Squadron joined 62nd Division; A Squadron operated as an independent unit based in Scarborough; C Squadron joined 59th Division. February 1917 : all units reformed in England; moved to France 19 March 1917, joining XIX Corps Cavalry a few days later. 28 August 1917 : moved to Etaples for infantry training. 25 September 1917: joined an infantry regiment and became 9th (Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry) Bn, the Northumberland Fusiliers. 3/1st Formed in February 1915. Remained in United Kingdom until absorbed by the 5th Reserve Cavalry Regiment in early 1917.
