August 1914 : in Manchester. Part of the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade.

August 1914 : Regiment split up: RHQ and C Squadron joined 23rd Division in April 1915 (it was also briefly attached to 1st Cavalry Division in late April / early May 1916); A Squadron joined East Lancashire Division; it moved to 53rd Division while in Egypt on 29 January 1917, and moved to XXI Corps Cavalry in Palestine in August 1917; D Squadron joined 14th Division.

14 May 1916: all units except A Squadron reformed in France, whereupon C Squadron the Surrey Yeomanry joined them to form III Corps Cavalry.

24 July 1917: the Duke's units became GHQ Troops and dismounted.

24 September 1917: after infantry training, the men joined a battalion of the Manchesters, which was redesignated 12th (Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry) Bn, the Manchester Regiment.

2/1st

Formed September 1914, and remained in UK. In July 1916, converted into a Cyclist unit, moving to Ireland in May 1918.

3/1st

Formed in 1915. Remained in United Kingdom until absorbed by the 6th Reserve Cavalry Regiment in early 1917.
