| A Yeomanry Division |
| |
| Summary
history of the division |
Formed
in August 1914 for the purpose of home defence, composed
of four existing mounted brigades of the Territorial Force.
The Divisional HQ was established at Bury St Edmunds and
the units were based in many centres in East Anglia. The
composition of the Brigade changed markedly during the existence
of the Division, as the "First Line" Brigades left for service
overseas, being replaced by "Second Line" units. Divisional
HQ moved to Norwich in November 1915.
Converted
to become the 1st Cyclist Division in July 1916, and broken
up in the November of the same year, the units then being dispersed.
(Another 1st Mounted Division was formed, from what had been
3rd Mounted
Division).
Remained
in the United Kingdom.

| Order
of Battle |
| The
Mounted Brigades were composed of three regiments of Yeomanry,
with an attached Field Ambulance
of the RAMC, Mobile Veterinary Section
of the AVC, Transport and
Supply Column of the ASC, a Signal Troop
of the RE, and an artillery Battery of the RHA,
unless specifically remarked below. These units had the name of their
Brigade,
so for example, the Field Ambulance attached might be called the
2nd South Midland Field Ambulance. |
